The main theme of the event in Pula was the defence procurement system as an essential prerequisite for a transparent force modernization process for most of the SEE countries. The leading idea still is that the initiated security integration processes for the region should not suffer from the financial contingencies. At this event Jan Dirk Blaauw gave an overview of defence procurement as a crucial part of parliamentary oversight of the security sector. The “power of the purse” is surely parliament’s most influential and direct measure to control security policy by the government.
